Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum are all affiliated with fervid subsets of evangelical Christianity, which has raised concerns about their respect for the separation of church and state, not to mention the separation of fact and fiction.

Now About That Oil Illustration by David Foldvari

Without a doubt one of my favorite covers we’ve put out in recent times. David used to do a weekly slot for me whilst at the Guardian, illustrating the Charlie Brooker column in G2 (amoung them here, here and here… I think… It was a while ago). Anyway, this cover reminded me of the joy it is to work with him.

We used a silver spot colour on this one too. Worth picking up an copy to see it in it’s full glory.

Well that’s certainly intense.

Virtually everything about Robbie Keane’s goal - the defense, the goalkeeping, the slow-motion-old-man hip shake, the cartwheel, the camerawork - is terrible.

That said, it’s not nearly as bad as this Grantland column from Carles about the MLS DP rule. I know there’s a growing backlash about him, but this isn’t about the writing. The column is inaccurate, poorly argued, and wrong.

I don’t now; LBJ doesn’t seem as dominating as I thought he would be. I’ve seen Leo in person; he is tiny.

It’s no secret that the White House would prefer to run next fall against the likes of Perry (or, perish the thought, Bachmann) than Romney, the easier to paint Obama’s opponent as unacceptably outré and even scary. Less appreciated is how significant a player Obama’s reelection team—along with its allied outside groups—may be in the Republican primaries. By spending millions of dollars on anti-Romney ads and pointing out the similarities of his Massachusetts health-care plan to Obamacare at every opportunity, they may be able to function effectively as a pro-Perry “super pac”—and one with greater resources and media reach than anything Perry and his allies can muster. The irony here would be rich, for sure, and the effect bordering on perverse. But don’t kid yourself: The possibility of things playing out just this way is one of many nightmares that keep Romney’s advisers awake at night.

“Editor in chief Ann Shoket said more than 35,000 readers visited seventeen.com to enter the “Pretty Amazing Real Girl Cover Contest” and 167,000 votes have been logged for a field that has been narrowed down to five girls. A glimpse at the finalists: Zoe, a 19-year-old from Chicago, designs and sells her own clothing and has met President Obama; Ann, a Texas native, is a published photographer; Shannon, 21, is a race car driver who wants to be the first female to win the Indy 500; Lauren, from California, is a budding filmmaker, and Nina, from New Jersey, travels the country giving presentations on cyber bullying.”

papermag:

Since it’s Madonna’s birthday, we’re sharing another special video to celebrate her 53rd. PAPER’s editor Kim sent us this clip, which is apparently of Madonna Louise’s first live performance ever. Says, Kim, who along with our other editor, David, was extremely plugged into the early ’80s downtown world that birthed pre-English-rose Madge, “This was at Danceteria. She was introduced by our great late friend and downtown nightlife fixture Haoui Montaug at his “No Entiendes” night.” (The “Go on, girl” shouted from the crowd at 1:03 as well as her shorts-and-hat combo are pretty magical, too.) Check it out.

What’s the most amazing thing about this clip?

a) The fact that it exists (and the quality is good).

b) The fact that it only has 55,000+ views.

c) The fact that this woman would soon rule the world.

(Bonus: d) The fact that Paper once hired me as an intern.)
